Nine Inch Nails and the Blackberry Generation

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Well, the rest of the show last night was pretty kick ass. They had 3 or 4 LED screens which were used quite effectively, 100s of those swivel lights that I called Gobo lights last night (but may in fact be called PAR lights instead), all used to add so much to what would have been an amazing concert just based on the music alone!

Highlights:

  • Running into so many people I knew: Rob, Scott Q, Cal, Randy, Craig, Kirstin were all there and I knew they’d be there before arriving, but then I also ran into Jen Murray (nee Schacter), Steve Zaychuk (serfas!), Travis from work, Mike Gamble from CPSC333… And I hardly even moved from my spot on the floor!
  • All the mosh thrashers with Blackberries! (Just let me finish this email… send… ok, now MOSH!!!)
  • Hurt was awesome, so many lighters (and like no cell phones — I guess that tradition isn’t ready for the big screen yet)
  • A huge section of the floor area all of a sudden becoming the center of the mosh pit as March of the Pigs starts.
  • Crystal Castles!!! I know I posted about this already, but man, I was just that happy to see them. Hopefully next time they do more non-screamy songs. Seemed to be the general consensus with other open-minded music listeners too who were hearing them for the first time.
